Org-chart 2.0

The Org-chart 2.0 builds itself based on the relationships described throughout the Intranet 2.0 and through effective communication patterns throughout the company.

Each person is responsible to maintain his or her position within the company by updating specific relationships with his or her colleagues. As with a "friend request" in a social network, one person proposes to another to enter in a given relationship and the other can accept.

Subordinate-Boss relationship

Traditionally, the most important relationship is "subordinate-boss". Standard org-charts are built strictly based on this link.

In the Intranet 2.0, each person defines the person he reports to. That is all. When someone changes departments, he simply changes the "boss" field in his profile.

The Org-chart 2.0, based on these "subordinate-boss" relationships, dynamically builds the traditional company org-chart. One can browse through it as usual by going up or down along reporting lines.

Each person looks out for himself, under the oversight of the other side of her relationships. This eliminates the need for central management.

Of course, this is clearly not the only relationship which matters within the organisation. This is where the Org-chart 2.0 becomes very powerful and very interesting.

Located-Location

In the traditional org-chart, if I visit someone in another office, I can easily find his boss, colleagues and subordinates. But it becomes more difficult to find who is on the same floor, if they are not in this line of reporting.

Each person maintains her company address within the Intranet 2.0. The Org-chart 2.0 connects this information into a dynamic map of the company, exposing proximity. This allows for more interaction between colleagues visiting a new location.

Client-Supplier

Throughout the company, everyone is someone's supplier and someone's client. Described in the Intranet 2.0, these relationships map out the full value chain of the company in the Org-chart 2.0. This values every one's contribution in the company.

Illimited possibilities

In the same way, any type of relationship can be mapped out in the company. You only need to document it in the  Intranet 2.0.

All kinds of formal or informal groups can be mapped.

Communication patterns

These maps can be enhanced through analysis of effective communication patterns throughout the company. People communicate using different channels: email, blog and forum exchanges, micro-blogging and chat conversations. Without going into the content of the exchanges, the pairs of correspondents can be analysed and "frequent-contact" links can be added to the Intranet 2.0.
This information can be used to map out the informal connections in the company.
