Goal

The goal is for people to actually contribute

The Intranet 2.0 is not about technology. Implementing tools is not by what is measured success. Success is measured by employee interaction, people actually contributing, sharing and conversing.

Contributing is not straight forward. It involves more work. It involves more risk.

Participating is more work, but no where near what people fear. Modern tools are easy to use, replace and not add to other channels. And the extra time spent adds tremendous value to each person’s work, multiplying it by the number of colleagues who profit from it.

Contributing is more risky. Everyone can see your work. Any mistake will be noticed.  The goal is to change the culture from “perfect publishing” to “ongoing contribution”. Very rapidly, people recognize the value “draft” contributions. In the end the company saves the time wasted in beautiful formatting and repeated reviews.

This culture change must be carefully planned and executed step-by-step.

  • Implementing a tool ≠ success
  • People actually contributing = success
  • Rules of perception
#1: contributing involves more work
#2: contributing involves more risk
  • Step-by-step tailored proces
